XB – Detroit Rear Axles

DetroitTM Rear Axles

17,500 – 23,000 lbs.

Detroit Axle

Backed by many years of manufacturing expertise, Detroit axles provide market-leading performance and value. An integrated one-piece differential in these rear axles offer greater stability and durability, with a smaller ring gear size for reduced weight and higher payload. Precision cut gears allow for a quieter axle and better gear mesh for driving comfort and durability.

XB Neway Front Air Suspension

Neway AS120 Steer Axle Suspension

10,500 – 14,700 lbs.

  • 2-spring suspension
  • Up to 12,000 lb. capacity
  • Incorporates ping tanks to allow for more air volume in the suspension and a sway bar to minimize body roll and increase stability
  • Self-Leveling Height Control Valve System
  • Frame Brackets with rubber bushed pivot connection
  • Flexible Equalizer Beam controls axle location, drive and brake reaction, and vertical load
  • Air Springs, mounted under the frame rail to reduce torque on the chassis, provide greater energy absorption and soft ride
  • Integral upper frame mounting bracket

XB ZF IFS and Front Axle

ZF™ Independent Suspension and Front Axle

Buses equipped with the ZF front axle system offer passengers the advantage of not having to negotiate steps to board. Full low-floor, low-entry, and double-decker buses with ZF IFS provide an exceptional combination of steering responsiveness and precision and ride comfort, plus a high axle load and reduced body roll. A high level of wheel deflection increases the turning radius in comparison to rigid axles, offering wheel cut up to 60°.

  • Up to 60-degree wheel cut offers superior maneuverability and turning radius
  • Tightest turning radius in the industry
  • Double-wishbone design offers smooth ride and refined handling
  • Excellent center feel and steering response
  • Front air-disc brakes with ABS help maintain control and significantly decrease stopping distance

For over 70 years, Detroit Diesel Corporation has developed a legacy of reliability and efficient performance. These qualities have been transferred to steer and drive axles, the components that shoulder your load day in and day out. Detroit axles combine advanced design features and state of the art manufacturing processes and are designed specifically for FCCC chassis.

For the tightest turning radius and maximum maneuverability, the unique design of the Detroit steer axles’ I-beam and tie rod arm offer up to a 50° wheel cut. And by using needle bearings that roll against the kingpin instead of bushings that rub, they increase durability while reducing maintenance needs.

By integrating the differential case and ring gear, Detroit drive axles allow room for a larger and sturdier differential. The ring and pinion gears are precision machined using a power dry cutting process, resulting in better mesh for less noise and a longer life. Lightweight design means higher payload and freight efficiency.

FUEL TANK

The XB Chassis comes equipped with a 90-, 100-, or 150-gallon rectangular aluminized steel fuel tank mounted between the rails for increased safety and reduced fuel stops.

LOWERED ENGINE POSITION

A lowered engine position creates a lower center of gravity, which increases the stability of the bus for a safer, more comfortable driving experience. It also allows for a flat floor in the rear of the bus, increasing usable space.

Economy

Smart, fuel-efficient design makes the most of every gallon

  • Get up to 7% better fuel economy* compared to an EPA 2007 Series 60
  • Pulls strong down to 1100 RPM so drivers can spend more time in top gear
  • Amplified Common Rail System (ACRS™) optimizes each injection event to minimize fuel consumption
  • Advanced cooling system allows for decreased fan on-time, minimizing fuel consumption
  • Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) virtually eliminates excessive, fuel-consuming regenerations
*Compared to the Series 60 EPA 2007 engine with comparable engine ratings and load weights.

Serviceability

Lower your cost of ownership with easier serviceability

  • Longest scheduled maintenance intervals in its class
  • Maintenance-free crankcase breather
  • Unmatched parts availability at your local Detroit service location
  • Common serviceability with other Detroit engines ensures trained technicians are available when you need them
  • Overall robust design provides B50 life of 1 million miles

Virtual Technician

Virtual Technician is a factory-installed onboard diagnostic system that puts you in control of your business 24/7. When a coach’s check engine light illuminates, data is immediately collected, providing a technical snapshot of the engine’s status before, during and after a fault code event. This information is sent to you and the Detroit Customer Support Center, where a trained representative can diagnose the issue, recommend service and even contact the nearest authorized locations with parts in stock. Put simply, Virtual Technician takes the guesswork out of engine repair, helping you to manage your business more efficiently.
